Outfit: Magnum PI in Kenya
Just a quick post today. This Hawaiian shirt remake formed part of my wardrobe for my trip to the British Virgin Islands a couple of years back, but I have worn it countless times since then. It originally came from the big Goodwill in San Francisco… I think it’s safe to say that this is one of the most travelled items in my wardrobe. Not bad for $10. You can read the original post here.
As I mentioned in my original post, it’s rayon so it’s super soft and breathable, and it keeps the sun off, perfect for lounging around. I paired it with a huge hat (naturally), Rayban-style sunglasses and black linen shorts.
Ooh very nice – love how you’ve turned it from over-sized monstrosity into summer essential! :)

Thank you! This is definitely one of my summer staples :)
Definitely a contender for the “African Queen” award!!
HAHA Thank you Sue!
That is completely gorgeous!
Thanks, lovely!
It is great! Amazing chanage – for better :-)
Thanks so much – that ‘before’ picture is certainly horrible! I have a couple more shirts I want to do this to for next summer.
I knew I was going to like you the minute I saw this post a few years back. It was actually the first time I had ever seen any of your work. Fun to know you’ve been getting lots of wear out of it. Thanks for sharing your fun vacation photos!
Hi Beth! That is so funny that this was the first post of mine that you saw! I have certainly been getting lot of wear out of this; in fact, I’ve travelled the world with it.
“Magnum PI” :o) I had forgotten about this refashion, thanks for the reminder! It still looks super cute.
Thanks JJ!
Thank you for re-posting this! Living in southern California, these shirts are plentiful. I have one in my pile that I bought because I love the print and the rayon fabric but have needed ideas to feminize.
Yes, this is a great but quick way to feminise a man’s shirt. Have fun refashioning!
Hi Sally
found out your site a few hours ago and i just cant stopped browsing all your posts, you are truly amazing, not only your sewing skills, refashion ideas and travelling photo shoots but you bring out the best of the best of every piece. genius !! and thank you for the inspiration too :)
Hello Ying, you are welcome! I’m so glad that you’re finding my projects inspirational. Thanks for reading!
This came out so CUTE! I have seen so many huge floral dude shirts that I was attracted to, but didn’t have an idea in my head of what to do with them. I love this idea…so I will definitely scoping out the big dude racks next time! :)
Yes, definitely do – the more material, the more you have to work with! Have fun!
Love the look. Is that an original Paradise Found shirt? I do not recall that design but then again I only have about 80 or so in my collection of Original Hawaiian Aloha shirts.
