By popular request: White shirt redux

Hi everyone, since so many people requested that I wear last week’s white shirt with skinny jeans or leggings, I thought I’d try out a couple of outfits so you can see how it looks.

Here it is with sequinned leggings.

As a reminder:

The shirt was originally £5.25 from the British Heart Foundation shop in Whitby: more info on this refashioning project here

The jeans were originally $5.99 from Thrift Town in San Francisco: more info on this refashioning project here

What do you think, do you prefer the skinnies or leggings to my original post with the skirt? Leave a comment below and let me know.

A few announcements: outfit pictures

I’m going to start posting occasional outfit photos again. The idea is that it will enable me to post more frequently, and like with the white shirt above, it’ll give me a chance to restyle some of my makes, since otherwise you only get to see them once. Look out for a few ‘old favourites’ that will be reappearing soon! I will also be featuring second hand finds that I’ve bought that didn’t need refashioning. I want people to see that you can get stylish stuff in charity shops and encourage people to get thrifting! Since a large proportion of my wardrobe is now made up of thrifted finds, I would love to show you all how I wear these items. This was part of my original plan for the blog (check out an early outfit post here), but I got a little sidetracked with all the refasioning. Don’t worry, though; I’ll still be posting regular refashion projects and my primary focus is not going to change.

Interview at So, Zo…

I was interviewed recently by the lovely Zoe for her blog ‘So, Zo, what do you know?’. You can read the interview here. It covers some of my motivations and ambitions and may answer any burning questions you may have! I’d also encourage you to head on over and check out Zoe’s blog as it’s a great source of inspiration for all things to do with sewing, refashioning and dressing sustainably.

The Refashioners Challenge

I’ve been invited to take part in a refashioning challenge, yay! ‘The Refashioners‘ (run by Miss P) is a really great idea which sees bloggers challenged to refashion garments picked for us by Miss P into wearable outfits. I’m thrilled about being part of this challenge already, even though the results won’t be out for a few months yet.

The other bloggers taking part in the challenge are:

Zoe – So Zo…
Dixie – Dixie DIY
Joanne – Stitch and Witter
Lauren – Lladybird
Tasha – By Gum By Golly
Portia – Miss P
Results of The Refashioners will be out in June! Stay tuned!

I really like to see how one item of clothing can be styled in different ways – your shirt looks great in all 3 outfits
but I think my favourite is the sparkly leggings combo. I’d be really interested to see how you style charity shop finds – I’ve committed myself to a year of not buying new clothes and I’m struggling to see the possibilities when I go in charity shops!

Thanks so much for commenting, Janet. Sometimes it can be hard to see the potential in charity shop finds when they’re in amongst rails of rubbish… I’m hoping to prove that a bit of styling can work wonders!

I LOVE those sequined leggings! I’m really looking forward to seeing your refashion. You’re so good at it!

Love all of your styling with this shirt. Big white shirts are always the first thing I look at when I go to the thrift shop. So many possibilities! Thank you for the inspiration.

Love the idea of outfit posts! I’m looking forward to getting fresh ideas on how to style thrifted/refashioned clothes since they make up a big chunk of my wardrobe but I’m guilty of wearing them the same way every time. And I love your tunic/sequined leggings combo!

That’s great, because I’m really looking forward to doing the outfit posts! :) Hopefully I’ll be able to provide a different take on things. Thanks for commenting!

fab! I have many men’s white shirts I got in NYC for about $5 each. all 100% cotton from france, japan, Switzerland. Yours looks great with the sleeves cut off. It’s not a man thing anymore.
    Can’t wait to snip[ away!

Ooo I love a mans white shirt so versatile! I too like both outfits but for me worn with the skinny jeans just edges it, it appeals to my more ‘fashion’ side if you know what I mean :)

Definitely prefer the leggings! Looks great either way though. Can’t wait to see all the new posts you’ll be putting up!

This white shirt is so versatile that you can probably wear it with everything in your closet! You have really inspired me to do some men’s shirts refashions. I have inherited a lot of men’s shirt from an elderly relative and they are just sitting in a big bin bag in the corner of my sewing nook…..

I just stumbled upon this site and I absolutely love it! It really inspires me. I waste so much on new clothes but I would much rather shop this way. I don’t know how though, which is why I am so thankful for this blog. Thanks for helping inspire me to be stylish on a budget so I can spend my money more important places. God bless you.

Thanks so much for the kind and supportive comment. Refashioning is a great way to revamp what’s already in your wardrobe (or your family’s) to save money. Have fun cutting up your clothes!
